Q: Will my usage be tracked?

Teradata collects Service Data (User login metrics, system usage metrics, and query metrics) about usage of Vantage Trial. Service data does not include User data stored in tables or schemas. Teradata is not given the right to identify which User is the source of service data without written permission from the customer.

What is Vantage Trial?

Vantage Trial provides users 30 days free access to the Teradata Vantage in the cloud.

Vantage Trial provides a taste of what customers get with their paid subscriptions to Vantage delivered as-a-service. While Teradata reserves the right to change the program, Vantage Trial Users currently get 2 TB of Customer Data Space (CDS) to use for 30 days and easy access to the following:

Vantage 2.1: Teradata’s flagship software with Native Object Store integration for performing Data Lake analytics.
Editor: A web-based editor for SQL developers to run queries, create scripts, and upload/save data.
Analyst: Intuitive tool for Business Analysts and Citizen Data Scientists to perform advanced analytics without code.
Console: An operational dashboard for Cloud Administrators to monitor and manage Vantage, including the ability to scale up/down and out/in.
JupyterHub: Open source tool for executing Python, R, and SQL code on Vantage, enabling developers to create, execute, and share documents that contain live code, equations, visualizations, and narrative text.

How do I get access to the Vantage Free Trial?

Accepted Answer

Simply fill out the website form with your contact information and your Teradata account team will be notified. If approved, you will be sent an email with instructions on how to get started. If you are offered a free trial, the terms and conditions will apply. In addition, please note, Teradata reviews all free trials requests and reserves the right to deny or cancel the free trial at any time and for any reason

How many Users can be on my Vantage Trial account?

Accepted Answer

Currently there can be a maximum of 10 Users per Vantage Trial system. We recommend adding Users as soon as the Trial starts so they can leverage the full 30-day trial period. The 30-day trial period begins with the first User.

Question 5

Do I need an AWS or Azure account to start my Vantage Trial?

Accepted Answer

No. AWS or Azure account information is not needed to start your Vantage Trial. However, Users will need to have permissions to access user data in Amazon S3 buckets or Azure Blob containers via Vantage.

Do I need any software to use Vantage Trial?

Accepted Answer

No. Users do not need to download any software or provide permissions except if they intend to access object storage data.

Do I need to enter any credit card information?

Accepted Answer

No credit card or other payment information is required nor requested. Do not provide credit card or payment information to anyone claiming to represent Teradata or Vantage Trial.

How do I start my trial?

Click ‘Start Trial’ in the activation email you receive. You will be prompted to set your password. After setting your password, log in with the username created for you (check your activation email) and your recently set password.

Yes, Vantage Trial is bundled with many sample use cases and data sets.

Can I load or connect to my own data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Although Vantage Trial prohibits the uploading of personal identifying information onto the system and Users should not load confidential into the system, Vantage Trial Users may import their own CSV files (up to 200 MB per file) directly into Vantage Trial and create tables consistent with the terms and conditions of the Trial. Teradata assumes no responsibility for data uploaded into Vantage Trial. The total storage space available per account shared amongst all Users of an account-specific trial system is 2 TB of Customer Data Space (CDS). Additionally, Users can explore and query CSV, JSON, and Parquet datasets in their Amazon S3 and Microsoft Azure Blob stores with Native Object Store.

May I query or join data from my on-premises Teradata system?

No, querying or joining with data in on-premises Teradata systems is not yet supported in Vantage Trial.

Question 14

Will Teradata back up my data?

Accepted Answer

No. User data will be persisted on the Trial system for 30 days. After 30 days, Teradata will securely erase User data from the Trial environment.

Question 15

Will my colleagues be able to see my data?

Accepted Answer

By default, each User has access only to their own data. Teradata has used best practices to enable data isolation and security. If a User wishes to provide access to their data, they can do so by executing a GRANT SELECT SQL query. Additionally, Teradata provides a shared space for Vantage Trial Users to access common data, if any.

Will I be able to save queries or results?

Yes, Users can save their scripts in Editor and be able to download their results as a file.

Can I export my data?

Accepted Answer

You can download your results or data as a file (CSV or JSON format supported) via the Editor.

Question 18

What happens if I scale my system or turn it off?

Accepted Answer

Users can perform elasticity operations such as Scale Up/Down or Scale Out/In. On performing scaling operations, the underlying system configuration changes and it starts consuming TCore-Hours at the corresponding rate. When the system is Stopped, TCore-Hours metering is stopped but User data persists on the system.

What happens at the end of 30 days?

Each Vantage Trial system expires at the end of 30 days at which time the Vantage Trial account is disabled and the User’s data is securely erased. Users will receive a reminder email when the end of the trial period is approaching and when the trial period ends. Users can track the number of days remaining on their Vantage Trial on the App Launcher page or in the Console.

How does the Vantage Trial compare to a production system?

Vantage Trial systems run on smaller, less powerful infrastructure that is purpose-built for Users to experience some of Vantage production system capabilities with some of their own data. Vantage Trial systems are not intended to test scale or query performance as they are not the same environments provided for paid subscriptions to Vantage delivered as-a-service.

Can I purchase my Vantage Trial system?

No, Vantage Trial systems are not available for purchase, but your Teradata account team would be happy to talk with you about the many alternatives for using Vantage in the cloud.

Can I extend the trial period or increase the number of Users?

Accepted Answer

Please contact your Teradata account team to request an extension of your Vantage Trial system. For a trial that requires larger numbers of Users or much longer durations, please also contact your Teradata account team.
